To honor our fallen friend and teammate, Warrant Officer John Wirka (’08), the Alumni presented the Inaugural John Wirka Memorial Award to Graduating Senior Mason Coletta. During his time with the FSU Hockey Team, Mason has demonstrated the Leadership, Commitment, and Sacrifice befitting of this special award.
The trophy (pictured right) is being made now and will be sent down to Coach Mark to present to Mason. The trophy will have the words Leadership, Commitment, and Sacrifice engraved on it.
We were able to present the award in front of the entire team over a zoom call which included John’s wife, Erica, and his daughter, Audrey. It was a special moment for a lot of the alumni who played with and knew John.
We will present this award at the end of every season to honor John and his legacy.
